Luxury Georgian home in rural Abergavenny Monmouthshire
Llanfoist House, a large roomy Georgian house in Abergavenny in the rural county of Monmouthshire, is now for sale. Located on the outskirts of Abergavenny, but within easy distance of towns like Monmouth and Newport, this home is secluded and yet easily accessible with excellent road and rail links to other major centres. It is a major part of a luxury Georgian manor house in garden and grounds of approximately six acres. The garden is large and includes formal and informal planting, a potager kitchen garden, an orchard and paddocks with stabling and fodder storage.
Llanfoist House is 2/3rds of a Georgian mansion. It is totally separated from the other 1/3rd. There is ample parking. The original property, known as Ty Mawr, was built in its present form in the first half of the eighteenth century by John Chambre on the site of an earlier 17th century house & remodelled in part in the mid 19th century for the Ironmaster Crawshay Bailey and comprised a three-storey five-bay house with hipped roof. Divided in the early years of the twentieth century, the two present houses are now known as Llanfoist House & The Hall respectively. They are listed Grade II as of Architectural & Historic interest.”
The house is set in some 6 acres including a heavily wooded steep bank, a formal garden and extensive lawns, outbuildings and stables. At the bottom of the wooded bank is a stream which runs part of the year and is spanned by a large Monet styled bridge. The stream runs into a large pond some 70 or 80 ft long and is always full. At the end of the pond and overlooking it is a ruined stone chapel.
The interior of the house is typical of the period, with high ceilings and main rooms that are about 20ft square.
Large Georgian home in rural setting
We have lived in this wonderful house and loved it for more than 40 years and now is the time to find new custodians to care for it and live the quality of life that can be enjoyed in these beautiful rural settings and surroundings, in a house that is generous in its proportions and in its spirit. Our decision to create this comprehensive website is because a home like this deserves much more than a three page brochure and short description and numbers of bedrooms etc. It is intended to show what there is to look forward to in living in a place like this and the kind of life style that is vital in this day and age when everything is too intense and hurried.
